Gedeth was the original historical name of Cádiz, the oldest city in Western Europe. From there, the Phoenicians ventured beyond the known world, crossing the Mediterranean and sailing past the Strait of Gibraltar —the mythical Pillars of Hercules— driven by curiosity, perseverance, and the ambition to open new markets.
Centuries later, Cádiz once again stood at the center of the world as a key port of early globalization. On its docks, Asia, America, Africa, and Europe converged; goods from the Manila Galleon, products from the New World, African knowledge, and European capital arrived. In Cádiz, it was not only goods that moved — continents, cultures, and opportunities were connected.
